Chapter 21: Rainy Sunday

Today is Sunday, my favorite day of the week, and this day could not get any better. It's stormy, rainy, and windy outside and I am really enjoying watching it from the inside. It's pretty peaceful. But that's not the only reason today is so wonderful. I spoke in church (at my home ward) today about change and finding my own path while in Boston. Although I was extremely nervous and wasn't as prepared as I could have been, I think I portrayed what I wanted to say. It was unfortunate that my parents could not be there to hear me, but it was still okay. Someone else showed up and it absolutely made me smile.

The next part of my Sunday consisted of my neighbor giving me a call and inviting me over for lunch. This lovely woman cooked me some corn, beef, greens, and we had a salad with some oranges and pineapple along with a homemade salad dressing. I loved sitting with her talking and enjoying the peace in her home. Then she gave me an ice cream cone for the walk back. I was and still am very grateful for her kindness.

My favorite part of the day so far is when I decided to pick up the guitar and practice the chords I learned the night before. I never really though I would be able to play a song on the guitar (well I still can't) but I practiced the chords I knew. Then I discovered something cool, and remembered the G chord that I forgot. After awhile, I was playing and making up words. Then, I starting writing. I wrote down a simple song to a special someone (cheesy I know). But it was simple. Nothing lovey dovey of sorts. Just simply how I felt. And although it was repetitive sounding, I think the lyrics made it okay. After all, this is my first song. Three chords, one song. Simple. But my fingers do hurt a bit and I am glad to take a break.

Now for the rest of my day, I wait. I will be playing a song for this person possibly. I recorded myself to see what I sounded like. Eep. I'll admit that I don't have a great voice. I know how to sing, but I don't have some amazing voice where people's jaws will drop. No. But I think that I can sing this one. I think I can do it. And if anything, it's just another barrier I trample down by singing and playing in front of someone.

Those were just a few things that made my day. I smile a little more, and find beauty all around me. Who ever said rainy days are bad?
